We didn't even have time to catch our breath after the qualifying round before it was time to line up the Elite Men and Women in the start gate again for semi-finals. Tahnee Seagrave was able to take another second off her #1 qualifying time, but that was not quite enough to hold onto the top spot as Vali Höll improved massively on her qualifying performance to grab the semi-final win. Anna Newkirk slipped back to 7th in the semis, going 3 seconds slower than she did in qualifying. Nina and Camille have a bit of work to do if they want to challenge for the win tomorrow, but they're showing solid pace and are not too far back.
"Official" Semi-finals coverage above.
In the Elite Men's category, the big story line is just how close racing is at the top now. The top 3 finishers came WITHIN ONE TENTH OF A SECOND of each other, and the top 5 fit within 1 second! We can't recall the last time that happened (if ever), and certainly not on such a long and brutal track. Shoutout to a couple of first year Elites who made their first final, Nathan Pontvianne and Bohdi Kuhn. Not an easy thing to do, as Ryan Pinkerton found out. Amaury Pierron snuck into the big show in 23rd after falling behind at split number 2 and looking for a while like he might miss out. Greg Minnaar just made the cut in 29th, while Laurie Greenland fell short, finishing his weekend in 32nd place in the semis. Bernard Kerr had a tire blow up, but he's protected for tomorrow's finals. We can't wait to finally see some live action!
