August brought the NW Cup family to the Idaho town of Kellogg for round 5 of the NW Cup series. After a nice break following Whitefish and Tamarack, we headed into another back-to-back week of racing. First up with Silver and some exciting weather. Friday started with 100-degree temps and some smoke in the air from regional forest fires. Luckily, being at the top of Silver Mountain allowed for a slight break in the heat, and the water park at the base was a welcome respite once practice was done.
By the end of the weekend though, it was raining, foggy, and cold at the top, changing up the conditions at the last minute from the extreme dust that riders had been practicing to slick roots and rocks covered in a coating of wet, loose dirt.
When the results were finalized, Dylan Brown and Emma Artz would roll away with the Pro wins. Junior rippers kept the pros on their toes with fast times. Kiger Holmer, Alyana Van Horn, and Bodie Mason took Junior wins proving they're ready to take over.
